The photographs we take reveal what’s important to us, and what we want others to know about us. By adding titles and/or poems, students can further enhance the personal meaning of their images. Each of us has an interesting story to tell about our lives, if we only know how. Here is a fun and easy way to help students tell their own history by narrating their place in their world. I love doing this with upper elementary and middle schoolers, because they are beginning to see and understand themselves in the bigger world. Most students have a cell phone in their pocket, and instant access to taking photos. Instead of using their phones to take posed selfies, they can make meaningful narratives of their lives with photographs and accompanying words.
